Chapter 8.
The Templates You Need (609 Letter)
LETTER #1
(INITIAL LETTER TO Credit Bureau disputing items)
{Name of Bureau}
{Address}
{Date}
{Name on account}
{Report number}
To whom it may concern:
On {Date of Credit Report} I received a copy of my credit report which contains errors that are damaging to my credit score. I am requesting the following items be completely investigated as each account contains several mistakes.
{Creditor 1 / Account number}
{Creditor 2 / Account number}
{Creditor 3 / Account number}
Thank you in advance for your time. I understand that you need to check with the original creditors on these accounts and that you will make sure every detail is accurate. I also understand that under the Fair Credit Reporting Act you will need to complete your investigation within 30 days of receiving this letter. Once you are finished with your investigation, please send me a copy of my new credit report showing the changes. I look forward to hearing from you as I am actively looking for a new job and would not want these mistakes on my credit report to stand in my way.
Sincerely,
{Your signature}
{Your Printed Name}
{Your Address}
{Your Phone Number}
{Your Social Security Number}
**Include a copy of the credit report showing which accounts you are disputing**
LETTER #2
(When you do not get a response from Letter #1)
{Name of Bureau}
{Address}
{Date}
{Name on account}
{Report number}
To whom it may concern:
On {Date of your first letter} I sent you a letter asking you to investigate several mistakes on my credit report. I have included a copy of my first letter and a copy of the report with the mistakes circled. The Fair Credit Reporting Act says I should only have to wait 30 days for the investigation to be finished. It has been more than 30 days and I still have not heard anything.
I am guessing that since you have not responded that you were not able to verify the information on the mistaken accounts. Since it has been more than 30 days, please remove the mistakes from my credit report and send me a copy of my updated credit report. Also, as required by law, please send an updated copy of my credit report to anyone who requested a copy of my credit file in the past six months.
I look forward to hearing from you as I am actively looking for a new job and would not want these mistakes on my credit report to stand in my way.
Sincerely,
{Your signature}
{Your Printed Name}
{Your Address}
{Your Phone Number}
{Your Social Security Number}
**Include a copy of the credit report showing which accounts you are disputing**
**Include a copy of your original letter**
**Include a copy of the registered letter receipts showing the date they received your original letter**
