ROSE

I NEVER heard a word about that confidential letter. I wasn’t even sure it made it to the council. Beyond that, nothing had changed at work. I’d changed. I went in, did my part, fought the fights I needed to and went home. It was grueling, but not all was lost. We’d made progress with funding allocations and I even found a few grants to apply for hoping to expand our reach. The one bright spot was Roland. He’d sent flowers and chocolates every couple of days. I got a teddy bear one Wednesday with that poem from high school inscribed on its stomach.
