CHAPTER 8

Does Systemic Racism Exist in America?

RECENTLY THERE HAS BEEN A GREAT deal of talk about racism, but not just any racism—systemic racism. This implies that our whole social system is undergirded by racist principles, such as creating laws and policies that favor white people at the expense of minorities. It also means that all the institutions and policies that spring forth from that society are inherently racist. Even when there is no overt appearance of racially biased activity, there are some who want us to believe that racism is embedded automatically in everything that is American and that it cannot be escaped. This is very interesting given that Black people in America have made so much progress in recent decades. By proposing that our whole social system is infected with racism at every level, the progressive left does not have to prove that specific incidents are the result of racism and can simply paint any situation with a broad brush.

I will readily admit that there are still vestiges of racism in our society, but as a Black man living every day in America, I rarely feel persecuted or disadvantaged unless I am dealing with members of the progressive left. These individuals seem to feel entitled to be able to determine what a Black person in America should think and what philosophies they should adopt. In fact, they seem to feel that they have a responsibility to single out and persecute Black people who do not abide by their definition of being Black. President Biden went so far as to say that if voters were having difficulty deciding between him and President Trump, “you ain’t Black.” This self-designated position as overlords of Black behavior is very offensive to many Blacks who take pride in thinking for themselves and not simply parroting what their rulers put forth.

It is critical to the goals of the progressive left to remain in a position that allows them to dictate to individuals, who in many cases are more concerned with day-to-day living than with crafting a political philosophy to govern their actions. The left discovered decades ago that by parceling out government benefits bit by bit, they could gain control of the voting habits of these individuals and create a significant political power base, especially in areas of concentrated minority neighborhoods. They are hoping to expand and solidify that power base by making it easy for many poor people to enter our country and obtain benefits provided to them through the efforts of the progressive legislators in both houses of Congress. These power-hungry politicians have the mainstream media at their beck and call to glorify and widely broadcast their efforts. At the same time, they emphasize how much money is in the hands of wealthy individuals and how that money needs to be redistributed in order to provide a more comfortable existence not only for those who are illegally immigrating to the country, but for the many American citizens who are not wealthy.

In other words, socialism is being placed front and center on the stage of American history.
