“What’s he doing?”

“He’s on the porch, taking a bath.”

I glance up to the window; the fading light reflects off the lines of his bare shoulders and arms. He swipes a scrubbing sponge over his skin, the same one I used a few minutes ago. Is it gross to think about my stuff and his stuff mingling together in the water right now? Probably.

“That’s hot,” she replies.

“We kinda kissed and stuff.”

“And stuff! Do tell!”

“Absolutely not. But, uh, I can confirm he’s hot as fuck.”

“Oh shit. Congratulations.”

“Don’t congratulate me yet. I still don’t know how I’m going to get home.”

“Pssh. You’re a mountain woman now. Don’t even think about coming home without that man. He’s the first one to put his hands on you in years.”

“Tasha!”

She’s not wrong, though.

We chit chat back and forth, and I look up and smile at Eli when he comes inside some time later with a platter of something I suppose I’m expected to eat.
