MARC 520 Summary Note (RDA 7.10 Summarization of the Content (Core Element for LC/PCC8)

The summary note should be used for all fiction juvenile materials and for all DVDs. Use for nonfiction juvenile materials if the table of contents does not adequately convey the topic or if there is no table of contents. As noted in Chapter 3, summaries have not historically been given for adult books, but they are becoming more common. For fictional items, make sure the summary does not give away the ending. It is okay to use sentence fragments. If you are using the blurb directly from the item or a website for the item, either remove the superlatives and subjective statements or note where the blurb came from, so that it does not look like the library is making those statements.

520 _ _ $a Mama Bear hopes to teach the cubs to think of others instead of only themselves by having them help an elderly neighbor clean out her attic.

520 _ _ $a Presents the history of women’s suffrage in the United States through the dramatic, often turbulent friendship of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. Part 1 covers the years from their youth up to the establishment of the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1868. Part 2 spans the period from 1868 to the passage in 1919 of the 19th amendment to the Constitution which gave women the vote.
