In the restroom at the cafeteria, Linda approached Mary. “Mary, don’t you think things would go a lot better for you if you made peace with Jim?”

“Oh, thanks for the advice, Dr. Phil,” snapped Mary.

Linda looked as though she’d been slapped in the face.

Mary instantly recanted. “I’m sorry, Linda. I know you’re right. But you have no idea what it is to live with that man. He doesn’t do anything for anyone. It’s all up to me. And now, after struggling through all the messes he’s made for me, and trying to bring up Chris practically by myself, I’ve got him harping on me about being the one who caused this whole thing.”

“But isn’t this more about Chris...?” Linda ventured.

“That’s just the point!” Mary said. “It should be, shouldn’t it? But Jim’s made it all about Jim and his innocence. Oh, I give up; he’s a disgrace to mankind. What did you think of the cherry pie? Did you have any?”
