Maria sat on the edge of the bathtub. Scott backed up against the vanity, directly across from her.

“What’s on your mind?”

Maria admired the only man she’d ever truly loved as an adult. Oh sure, she’d had boyfriends and playmates in high school and college, but Scott—well, Scott was just different. He was her first real lover, the first man who’d not only responded to her needs, but had fulfilled them above and beyond her wildest imagination.

He flexed his muscular arms and crossed them over his chest. His dimples stretched from the corner of his mouth halfway up his face and she approved of his exerted confidence. His self-assurance wasn’t a front, he was just that confident of himself, and he was also sure of something else.

He was sure of her.

She’d always known how he felt about her. Even though they hadn’t talked in nearly two years, she’d still felt his love from afar. A love like theirs was powerful, strong enough to stand the tests of strained time.

“I love you,” she blurted before she analyzed the ramifications of admitting as much.

“I’m glad.”

“Don’t be an ass.”

He winked. “I love you, too, and you’ve always known it. I must’ve kicked myself a thousand times because I never told you. I never reassured you.” He took a short breath and added, “Somewhere deep inside I often wondered if we might have worked if I had told you how I felt.”

“And how do you feel right now?”

He tilted his head at the door. “Are you asking for me or for them?”

“I want them.” She revealed her feelings again then ducked her head. “I’m still pretty good at telling you what’s on my mind, huh?”

Scott took a step forward. He tilted her chin up and looked into her eyes. “Do you think sleeping with them will hurt me?”

“Will it?”

He blew out a hard breath. “I don’t know. I’ve never stood by and watched the woman I love fuck another man, much less two of them.”

“Is it anything you ever thought about?”

“Why do you think I made sure I spent the night with you last night?” He massaged his neck and his handsome face turned pink.

“Why Scott Zelmore, I do believe you’re blushing.”

“Probably,” he said, sitting beside her.

“Tell me about last night.”

“I was in my room, the one I claimed in the beginning, and I kept hearing voices, a lot of laughter. Turns out it was Abby and Ace, but I didn’t know that at the time. Anyway, I started thinking about you with Drake and Cade. I mean they didn’t exactly hide their interest in you when I first arrived. Anyone within a mile could’ve felt the sexual tension in the room when I walked in and more or less made sure everyone there knew we had a past.”

“You liked that.”

“Yeah, it was pretty rewarding to let them know I had the girl they wanted.”
