CHAPTER 13

From their rented van, T and Mike Powell watched power going out for several residences, as well as several streetlights. T keyed her mic. “Entry Team, go.”

Kendricks, who was the tallest, threw a thick quilt blanket over the top of the stone wall in case there was glass lining the top. This was a common security measure.

All three of them negotiated the wall, dropped into the villa grounds and low-crawled behind some shrubbery almost reaching the front gate. Kendricks low-crawled behind some stone furniture continuing east and was on the opposite side of the guard from the other two women.

Nakeisha had her taser out and was crawling closer.

The guard was tall and heavyset but not in a fat way, wearing a polo and some slacks. Nakeisha could see the bulge underneath the waistline where the polo was pulled over. There was obviously a pistol under his shirt.

Kendricks casually walked up to the guard who turned to face her. “Hey, handsome,” she said in Italian.

The guard was surprised and hesitated. When his mind finally comprehended the tactical clothing and mask, he reached for his weapon. Standing behind him, Nakeisha deployed the X26P taser, firing two prongs into the mafia goon’s back. The crackling of the taser delivering 50,000 volts was surprisingly loud in the quiet of the night.

Unfortunately, the guard turned around, surprising Nakeisha as nothing happened to him. He was still pulling up his shirt and reaching for his weapon.

Kendricks shouted, “Vest! He’s wearing a vest!”

Nakeisha, still holding the taser, tackled him from behind and jumped on his back. Kendricks practically dove for the goon’s right hand, who now had the pistol grasped and half out of the holster.

He started grappling with them, yelling for help. Nakeisha pushed the taser into the neck of the Sardinian goon and deployed the device again in a method called a “drive stun.” Instead of prongs, there was actual contact with the skin and the electrical controlled device.

Not as effective as the prongs, but it generally got the job done. Electric shock coursing through his body, the guard fell forward, pinning Kendricks under him and Nakeisha Powers riding his back. Kendricks was still wrestling with goon number one’s right hand, preventing him from using the pistol.

The Camorra thug was gargling, sounding like Chewbacca, and rode the full five seconds of the taser’s shock before resetting. As soon as the taser reset, Nakeisha drive stunned him again for another five seconds.

The large Italian was able to get his weapon clear of the holster, but Kendricks knocked it away.

By this time, Elsa Mendez had jumped into the fray and was pinning the guard’s left arm. Kendricks was yelling from the bottom of the pile, “Zip tie him!”

“I’m trying!” Nekeisha yelled back.

The guard was strong, and the taser kept his muscles locked up so long as the front of the device made contact with the skin. Contrary to what the movies and television might depict, a taser does not knock someone out. It only paralyzes them for the five seconds the device is activated.
