Chapter Thirteen

A courtesan need not raise her voice

The first thing that hit my awareness was the coolness of the silk sheets contoured to the front of my naked body. The next, the warmth and hardness of pure male conformed to my spine. And then the thick length pressed between the globes of my ass.

I smiled sleepily and felt a twinge in my lip. Then I attempted to stretch – and my entire body awoke to the remembrances of the previous day’s assault.

I bit my lip to stifle the moan, then cried out when pain throbbed along the injury.

Jace bolted up on immediate alert. “What! What is it? Did I hurt you?”

A tiny streak of blood came away as I swiped at the lip in frustration. “I just forgot about my sore lip.”

“Here…let me see it.” He hovered over me, his morning ready cock thudding against my hip.

“It’s fine. It’s fine,” I assured, brushing him away to sit up and slide my legs over the side of the sanctuary bed.

He cupped my chin and turned me to face him. “It’s not fine if it hurts that much.” With studied appraisal, he narrowed his eyes. “Swelling’s down. Maybe all it needs is this.” A gentle kiss feathered my lip. “And then some of this.” His tongue lapped across the seam of my closed mouth.

I planted a palm against his forehead and pushed him away to fall back upon the sheets. “I can’t have you doing that if I’m going to be presentable tonight.”

“Tonight?”

“I’ve been engaged to attend the Tarlington gathering this evening. With Dane.”

As if it was any of his business. In my desire for more of Jace’s glorious cock, I’d become rather careless with sharing my client’s names. But it wasn’t like he didn’t already know Dane had shared my bed. Still, I had to get a tighter handle on my mouth around the mech tech.

I rose from the bed and strolled in all my glory across the room to mop at the still puddled water scattered across the floor all around the bathing vessel. I had a lot of cleanup work to do in order to get my sanctuary in shape for my evening with Dane.

Jace sat up, displaying his nude and ready body without a hint of shame. It made him entirely too attractive. “You can’t seriously be considering going with all of the scrapes and bruises on your face.”

I dipped a cloth into the tea tree oil and dabbed at my lip. “A courtesan does not cancel engagements.” Especially when I so desperately needed the credits.

“But what will Dane say when he sees you like that?” He slid from the bed. “I don’t want anyone to think I’d do something like that to you.”

“Don’t be ridiculous, Jace. Witnesses saw I was already injured when you escorted me toward the ship.”

“But they didn’t see what happened in the alley. Or who attacked you.”

“That’s what starport vid-feeds are for.” I traced the cloth carefully over my face, invigorated by the sting of healing tea tree.
