Part of the reason for his deliberation about the third possibility listed was the way he described her in the material he would provide her. The last three pages of his writing were about Sirena, not Brown Eggs. These three notebook pages could clearly be interpreted as a written admission of his attraction to her. He knew there was a chance she might recoil from what she perceived to be a cloaked attempt at seduction.
In truth, he knew that the last three pages of the material he prepared did not limit the possibilities of a significantly expanded relationship between them. He had intentionally crafted his description of her to further the appeal of developing a more intimate relationship.
He tried to convince himself that whether or not any relationship between them would intensify at some point was secondary to the larger purpose he thought he recognized with her. At its most basic level and value, the content of his written material clearly centered upon how the two of them would proceed together under the premise of a collaborative literary project. That seemed to justify the highly energized content of those three pages for him in which much of the language seemed laced with suggestive undertones. Nonetheless, the expressed purpose proposed in the writing truly did remain just a literary collaboration and nothing else.
He had checked his impulse to really write how he might ultimately feel about her because the potential description would most likely portray her as one of the most â if not the most â desirable woman he had ever encountered. He had already understood that he was not only drawn to engage with her at every level but also perhaps even consider starting his life anew just for the opportunity to be with her on a daily basis. He found himself enticed by the notion of waking up beside her every morning, enjoying life with her during the day every day, and knowing she was next to him every night before he drifted into his dreamscape.
He knew how disruptive these thoughts were for him in the hypothetical realm, as well as how destructive they could be if he decided to act upon them, but she had made him feel more alive than he had in a long time. He had never felt this strongly about another woman since he fell in love with his wife. Now, after nearly a quarter of a century of marriage, he never felt closer or more physically intimate with his wife. Moreover, he had never felt more certain that their marriage â and marriage in general â was a true sacrament between a man and a woman that should be honored in all ways as such.
And yet here he was struggling with this newfound whirlwind of passion he felt for another woman who engorged him at the mere thought of her. Sirena had overtaken him body, mind, and soul despite the fact that he hardly knew her and had never even touched her.
