Jeff went crazy. He knew people with cameras lurked everywhere, and Mickey did not need to be seen as the aggressor. This call, this shit, had nothing to do with them. “Mick!” Jeff got Mickey in a headlock and physically dragged him off Cochran. “We’re done!” He grabbed Mickey by the arm and forced him to walk away. Jeff kept checking behind them, making sure this complete idiot didn’t shoot them in the back.

When the sergeant’s car pulled up, Jeff breathed a sigh of relief. He kept Mickey heading to their patrol car. “Done. You hear me?” Jeff said. “This incident never happened.”

Mickey was silent, which was how Mickey dealt with his fury. Either that or with violence.

Jeff walked him back to their car and pushed Mickey to the driver’s side. Cochran’s car and the abandoned motorcycle were still there.

“Go. Clear the area.” Jeff waved his hand for Mickey to drive away. “We did an area check and that’s it. You got it, Stanton!”

“Yeah.” Mickey shut down the overhead lights and drove off, looking so angry, Jeff knew this was not the end. Only the beginning.
