The process of immigrant identity formation is part of an interactive acculturation process, just as identities are formed in general (Bourhis et al., 1997; Block, 2006). Individual immigrants are constantly reconciling their current sense of self in their new country with their older self in the process of integrating into their new country and into an increasingly interconnected world.
