1. INTRODUCTION

The issues related to the consumer cash and cashless payments constitute a very important and multifaceted area of research in finance. Their strength lies in the diversity and complexity of the addressed problem. Due to the pragmatic nature of the cashless payments, there is a need to enrich their theoretical achievements. It is very important to acquire new knowledge of a descriptive and normative character, because such knowledge helps explain the studied phenomena. Moreover this will help to formulate the recommendations for business practice in the field of the cashless transactions. In the realities of today’s economy, cashless payment become one of the elements of the global economy and it is perceived as a determinant of the economic development. From the theory and practice point of view, it is important to recognize and understand the reasons of the cashless payments, as well as to understand why despite the long period of its functioning on the market, there is still high stability of cash. The purpose of the chapter is to present the results of the author’s survey on the consumer cash and cashless payment, with particular emphasis on the consumers’ financial knowledge in the field of payments.
