Chapter 16
Kenji
At long last, Iâd been able to have a heart to heart with Glori and explain myself. I didnât want to make excuses, but she seemed to understand why Iâd chosen not to tell her while weâd been alone together in her little cottage. I still had a long way to go to make it up to her, however.
I left Glori in her room and then climbed the ladder up to the next tier of the shared Guard chambers. Passing by Thressaâs room, I entered mine and Angelâs room without knocking, hoping heâd return from training soon. To my surprise, he was already there, fiddling with the strings on his Fae fabrics.
âKen!â Angelâs smile spread slowly as he studied me, probably trying to determine how my conversation with Glori had gone. âWell?â
âGlori and I talked.â I couldnât help the grin that crept over my face. âAnd kissed.â
âSo she forgives you?â
I tilted a hand back and forth. âShe understands why I didnât tell her when I had the chance. But I want to rebuild her trust in me, and I know just how to do it.â
âOh?â A shadow passed over Angelâs expression. He probably felt like he had as much to atone for as I did.
âWe need to convince Lyall and the others to go back with us to the human realm.â
âGlori wants toâ¦â He frowned, then snapped his fingers. âGraduation, right?â
I nodded. âShe knows Lyall wonât like it. Even Lauren already gave her flack about it.â
âI can understand why. Sheâs safe here.â Angel got to his feet. âIs she talking to Lyall right now? Should we go support her arguments?â
âNo, no, she went to bed. Jovanka and Lauren are guarding her. I want to do this on her behalf.â
I wanted to do a lot more than that. I would do whatever it took to regain her favor. But I also wouldnât compromise her safety, so we needed to get the Guard on board.
Angel turned away to pick up his fedora, but the frown on his face told me something else was still on his mind. âWhat is it?â If he wasnât fully bought in, I didnât know how I would ever convince Lyall and the rest.
âIâm⦠glad you finally talked to Glori. I guess Iâm a little envious that it was so easy for you.â
A chuckle escaped. âYou didnât want her to go easy on me, huh? Did she rake you over the coals?â
He waved me away. âNo, itâs not that, itâs just that⦠you donât have to worry about your magic accidentally seducing Glori into making you her consort against her wishes.â
Weâd been over this before. But I tried a different tactic this time. âDude, she wants us both, sheâs kissed us both, and I donât have Nixie powers like you do⦠Surely that proves she legitimately likes us both?â
Angel donned his fedora and gave me a half-hearted smile. âLetâs go talk to Lyall.â
We took the ladder down one at a time, and then I approached Lyallâs door and knocked on it.
