Now think about what you want to see developed in a guy or girl before you start a courtship with that person. You want to know that he or she has lived a consistent Christian life for at least a year or two before you date. You want to make sure the other person is not on the rebound from somebody else and only wants you because he or she wants to have somebody—anybody. Is this person submissive to his or her parents? Has this person made a commitment to be a follower of Christ and to read through the Bible? Does this person seek the Lord? A yes answer to the last two questions should be a prerequisite.

You don’t want to date just anybody who takes a liking to you. When you have your heart and life together as a follower of Christ, a lot of people will find you attractive. You have to have high standards. Don’t just consider if he is tall, dark and handsome. Set standards for what his character will be like. You don’t want somebody who had been throwing her lips all over every guy in town and who is now sweet on you. The standards that you choose for a guy or girl should be different from what people in the world choose.

List five or six standards that you set for somebody you would enter into a courtship relationship with.
