Lacy had taken most of the week to get settled and was even able to venture out to a thrift shop with Cal to pick up a few things that she needed. He paid for her new items, but she promised to pay him back. At this rate, Lacy was going to owe him her first few months’ worth of paychecks, but she didn’t have any other choice.

The best part about the last week was that she didn’t have to deal with Chris or work in the kitchen at the rectory, doing dishes. She and Cal had worked out a schedule for chores and cooking, at her insistence. If she was going to stay with him, she wanted to at least help out and not have him waiting on her hand and foot.

She was finishing up cleaning the kitchen and he walked into the room, sweaty from yet another workout. She was surprised to find out that he did Cross-fit. She didn’t know many priests, but she assumed that not many of them did Cross-fit like Cal.

She looked him over and then back down to her sink full of dishes. Seeing him sweaty from his workout always did crazy things to her girl parts. Lacy was finding it harder and harder to keep her hands to herself whenever she was around Cal and touching him again would be a huge mistake. She’d have to find another place to live if she couldn’t control her hormones because she was sure that corrupting a priest would be bad karma.

“You make me feel like a slug,” she grumbled.

Cal chuckled and finished off his bottle of water. “Well, you could join me in the basement to work out,” he offered.

Now it was her turn to laugh. “I haven’t worked out in so long, I’m sure that one workout with you would leave me in a full-body cast.”

“Naw,” he drawled, “I’ll go easy on you at first.”

“I’ll consider it,” she agreed. “I wanted to talk to you about something else too,” she said.

“I can already tell that I’m not going to like it,” he teased. “You do this thing where you avoid eye contact and wrinkle up your nose when you know I won’t like what you’re going to say. You’ve done it since we were kids, Lacy.”

“Well, I’m not sure that you will like this, but I was thinking that since no one has heard from Chris since that night at the shelter, I’d like to look into getting a job. The nun’s down at the shelter were going to help me look for something. I was wondering if you might have any down there that you’re still friends with who might still be willing to help me out,” she said.

Cal leaned up against the counter and even though she refused to look at him, Lacy could feel his eyes on her. “I was going to tell you this later,” he said, sighing and crossing his arms over his chest.

“Now, I’m the worried one. I’m not going to like what you’re about to say, am I?” she asked.
