COOPER
âOkay, we just have to put the frosting on, and then itâs done.â Wesley slides the cake out of the oven and sets it on the pot holders that are sitting on top of the counter. Then he reaches over and turns the oven off, before looking at me with those gorgeous blue eyes. âAnd then weâll have a perfectly delicious celebratory cake.â He steps forward and presses his lips to mine, cupping my cheeks with his hands which are still covered in oven mitts. I had shown up half an hour ago with the news that Iâd finally saved up the money to start the training for my private pilotâs license, and this is our way of celebrating. Itâs been a year since I got my job at the bakery but itâs been slow going, saving up since I can only work a few hours a week between school, sports and wanting to still have time with Wesley.
I chuckle and pull him away. âCan you get rid of those?â I ask.
âWhat?â Wesley says, mock-affronted, looking at the oven mitts and then back at me. âDonât you think theyâre sexy? They have turkeys and everything.â
That just makes me smile even more and bring Wesleyâs face back to mine. âYou are sexy. And adorable.â I press my lips to his and slide the oven mitts off sequentially, feeling Wesleyâs lips smiling against mine.
âWes?â I rub my hands up and down his arms once weâve pulled away.
âYeah?â he asks, his gaze meeting mine. Thereâs so much tenderness and affection in those eyes, it melts me. He has no idea what he does to me, just by being him.
âCan weâ¦?â I start. My face heats, not because Iâm embarrassed but because I donât know how heâll react. I swallow, glancing down, before my eyes meet his again. I want this, more than anything. And if I canât have this conversation with him, then we have no business even contemplating moving our relationship to the next step. âI mean...could we...â I take in a shaky breath, Wesleyâs face still only inches from mine. âCould we talk about something important? Upstairs maybe?â
Wesley flushes, his entire face turning an adorable shade of red. âRight now?â he asks softly, his hands gripping my hips as he swallows. I can tell I caught him off guard. Heâs fidgeting, his fingers playing with my shirt.
âWell, it doesnât have to be right now, right now,â I say, my heart racing, and my stomach tightening, âbut I was hoping it could be soon? Like really soon.â
Wesley bites his lip, regarding me for a while, and I wish I knew what he was thinking. I feel so exposed and vulnerable. This is something Iâve wanted to talk with him about for months now, but could never find the courage. Weâve been dating for over two years, and Iâm crazy about him. Head over heels for him. In love with Wes doesnât even begin to describe the intense affection I have for him and the joy I feel when weâre together.
