According to the Las Vegas Sun it went down like this.

Las Vegas—Vegas Metro is looking into the robbery/murder of two armored-truck guards during a robbery in the parking lot of Streamers Casino. Metro Captain Robert Meadows had this to say about the daring daylight robbery, "We're checking eyewitness reports and our files to see if there is any connection between this incident and the armored-car robberies last year." Meadows was referring to last year's armored car robbery at the Desert Inn and the attempted armored car heist at the MGM Grand that was thwarted by MGM security guards. MGM suffered a similar incident in 1998.

Police have received leads on the two shooters and the getaway-car driver responsible for the killings of guards Frank Maguire, 36, and Perry Jameson, 32. An unidentified white male was also killed during the robbery. At this time, police are unable to determine whether the dead man was part of the gang or an innocent bystander. No arrests have been made as of this morning.

Las Vegas police, who are being assisted by the FBI, sifted through evidence and continued to search for the men responsible for killing the driver, Maguire, and his partner, Jameson. Maguire is the father of three children.

"I have every confidence that we will make an arrest. We will continue to work at this until we apprehend these men," said Captain Meadows.

Police say at about 4:25 p.m. Friday the guards pulled up in front of Streamers Casino. The pickup was a special one, commissioned by Streamers President/owner, Don Janzen.

"We are, of course, distressed and horrified, by this heinous and cowardly criminal action," said Janzen, 36, following the incident. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these men." Janzen appeared visibly distraught when informed the guards had been killed.

Apparently, the ambush had been planned and set up hours before. The robbers used a Dodge minivan and a Lincoln Navigator SUV in the robbery. The robbers waited in the vehicles, both stolen and chosen because of their heavily tinted windows, until the Safeguard armored car had parked and was returning with the cash bags from Streamers. According to eyewitnesses the robbers backed the stolen minivan in front of the armored car. When armored guard Jameson stepped forward to instruct them to move their vehicle, the occupants of the second vehicle roared up and a gunfight ensued with Jameson able to discharge three shots from his gun before the robbers' shots killed him. Frank Maguire, a 15-year Safeguard armored car veteran, emerged from the armored car in order to protect his partner. He exchanged fire with the robbers and was gunned down. Both men died at the scene. Captain Meadows said bullet-resistant vests were unable to protect the two men from the type of weapons used by the robbers.

Witnesses say they were unable to determine when the third, unidentified man was shot. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Las Vegas Municipal Hospital.

The robbers fled with six bags of money—one that Jameson had in his hand and five others out of the truck.
