“—A main frame for an automaton?”

As far as Naoto knew, it didn’t fit the model of any maker.

It was complete haute couture. As it wasn’t in operation at the moment, even Naoto couldn’t guess the details of its functionality, but considering its size, which looked like it would be just right for a young girl automaton—

“—No way, is this for AnchoR?!”

“I had a little time to kill once my work was canceled before they brought me here. I guess I can be honest with you now: it was a job that I wanted to jump on immediately, once I had the time. You guys challenged me to make something better than what ‘Y’ did—if I didn’t take it up, I wouldn’t be able to call myself a clocksmith, would I?”

Impossible.

A little time to kill? It’s only been two days since. The amount of time he would have had to work on it should have been one night at most.

Actually, before that—

“Master... could it be that you’ve tinkered with AnchoR’s parts before?”

“No? That was the first time I saw an Initial-Y Series. Like any other clocksmith, I do want to open one of them up and see their inner workings at least once in my life, though.”

“Then how did you make this?!” Naoto yelled out half-impulsively.

He hasn’t had the chance to analyze her structure, and it’s not like there’s a detailed specsheet for AnchoR that he could have used as reference for her main frame, either.

Just how did he make a main frame for AnchoR, despite that?

Giovanni broke into a gleeful smile. “I was able to see her moving right in front of me when you guys came to my workshop, up close and personal—for me, that’s more than enough.”

There’s no way such a thing could be true.

It might be just barely believable if we were talking about a mass-market model automaton, but we’re talking about an Initial-Y here. We’re talking about AnchoR.

Naoto knew just how complicated and delicate AnchoR’s structure was better than anyone else.

Common sense would dictate that there’s no way this thing could be compatible with her.

At least, that should be the case...

...But yet, I’m almost sure this is going to work.

As unbelievable as it is, that’s the feeling I get.

“Master...”

“This main frame should allow that little pipsqueak to function without a hitch. As for the parts you should connect to it, if that Miss has racked her brains about it, she should already have it figured out.”

“...What a terrible joke.”

Feeling completely blindsided, Naoto held his head and groaned, “You show me something like this, yet claim that Marie is a better clocksmith than yourself? ...If she heard you say that, she’d go absolutely ballistic. I could even see her dying from all her rage.”

There’s no doubt that her screech would resound throughout this entire grid.

Giovanni shrugged with the expression of a child that just succeeded in a prank. “What I said was that, comprehensively speaking, she’s undoubtedly a better clocksmith than me. But I would proudly assert that, when it comes to this specific field, I’m a better clocksmith than ‘Y’, even.
