Name: MICHELLE LAINE Hometown: LOS ANGELES, CA Occupation: DESIGNER OF JEWELRY AND ART-BASED CONCEPTUAL WEAR

How would you describe your style?

Sophisticated but never polished. I’m all about putting different fashion periods and cultures together and letting them coalesce. For example, geometric minimalism meets belle epoque lace, mythological neogoth revival meets embellished zulu tribal warrior, grunge rock/boho festival chic meets sleek art deco silhouettes.

Who or what inspires how you dress?

I am influenced by everything from machinery and obscure mechanical components of engineering, art, and films such as Blow-Up, Easy Rider, and La Dolce Vita, all the way to conceptual furniture, interior design, and architecture.

What are your favorite items in your closet?

I would say my lace motorcycle jacket, high-waist velvet hot shorts, my couture cashmere cape, and all of my handmade oversized deconstructed jewelry.

What is the last thing you bought?

I just added a pair of Cuban-heeled packer boots to my already overcrowded collection of Victorian booties.

Who are your favorite designers?

Alexander McQueen, Proenza Schouler, Nicolas Ghesquière, Balmain, Ann Demeulemeester, Alexander Wang, Erickson Beamon, Delfina Delettrez.
