I must have nodded off because the captain's announcement that we were about to land jolted me awake. Stefan was still sleeping and Andrei was watching me, drinking more blood.
"Hey," I said. "Do you think we'll see a dragon at the Sigil games."
"It's possible."
"Is something wrong?" I asked, wondering if I had chocolate chips smeared on my face.
"Don't go after Zadachin. Not alone."
"Not planning on it. I'm not an idiot."
"Don't try to mess with his mind either. I know you're powerful. You're probably the most powerful mind bender I've ever met. It's bad enough that everyone in the world is going to notice that too after these games. You need to stay under Zadachin's radar until we get the wishes."
I nodded sleepily, but gasped when he gripped my arm hard and gave it a shake. "Promise me, Lola. Promise me you will not confront him until we have our wishes."
"Okay already. I promise."
Andrei let out a long breath. "Good. Thank you."
The plane landed gently and after a few moments we were cleared to exit. Stefan slept up until the last minute when they opened the door to the plane.
"I hope we didn't come all this way to be arrested," I said.
Andrei didn't say anything. He was tense. When I moved forward, he suddenly slipped in front of me. I felt Stefan close the distance behind me.
"What's going on?" I said, trying to keep the panic from entering my voice.
"Follow me," Andrei said, opening the door and climbing down the stairs that lead to the tarmac.
"Hey, you can't do that," one of the airline crew said.
But we were already on the tarmac, bypassing the airport entirely. A huge black limo waited for us. A large vampire emerged from the car. He was dressed dramatically in a velvet cape and he carried an ornate walking stick of twisted wood with a large shining gem on top. "Hurry children," he said, tapping the stick on the ground.
"I hope that's your father," I said to Andrei.
"It is, now move."
The three of us piled into the back of the limo, just as a team of security came running towards the car.
The vampire threw his head back and laughed. He joined us. The driver closed his door and them moved around to the front. I watched as the guards slowed to a walk. They just watched us as the car unhurriedly drove past them.
"Was that for us?" I said.
"Yes, it seems there is a warrant out for all of you."
"We're going to be arrested? For what?"
"It's vague. Right now you three are persons of interest wanted by the American government. Fortunately, you are in a Hungarian car and are thus on Hungarian property. Soon you'll be on the Emerald Magus territory and all the governments who are looking for you will have to wait until after the games." He laughed again. "But enough of that. I am Andrei's father, Count Vanlinger."
"Your grace," I said, nodding.
"Milord," Andrei muttered out of the side of his mouth, elbowing me.
I slugged him.
