6.5 Summary

The input parameters of our model of citation dynamics are fitness distribution ρ(η), aging functions for references and citations, A(t) and , correspondingly; the probability kernel of indirect citations P(K, t) = P 0 e −γt, and the average reference list length R 0. The fitness distribution is universal. It is a log-normal distribution with the mean μ ≈−1.48 and standard deviation σ ≈ 1.1.

The aging function for references is universal, while the aging function for citations is not and it is specific for each discipline. The difference between disciplines is related to their different growth rates.
