FORTUNATELY the week passed quickly, although Peter was never far from Dillon’s mind. Peter called as promised, and Dillon excitedly told him about the dinner theatre tickets. Peter agreed that they sounded great, and they made plans to meet at the theatre on Saturday night. Peter offered to pay for the tickets, but Dillon told him not to worry about it. Peter didn’t push, and Dillon mentally checked off Gift No.7. He realized that he needed to think about how to position the ballet tickets, since Peter was starting to push back a little on paying, but he decided to worry about that when the time came. After a very satisfying session of phone sex, they hung up saying how much they missed each other already.

He hadn’t had so much fun planning gifts in a long time, and it put him in the mood during the week to start buying gifts for his friends. He started looking online and even went shopping on Friday night at the mall with Jen and a few of their friends, after meeting for dinner first. It was a lot of fun, and he realized what he had been missing by staying home and mourning Jesse. Thinking back over his activities with friends since Jesse had died; he recognized he hadn’t really been with his friends for a long time where they were doing stuff together. He had been too wrapped up in his grief to go out to parties, or if he did show up for something, he wasn’t the happiest person to be around.

He realized that he hadn’t thought about Jesse as much this week, although he still had moments where he missed him dreadfully—like when planning his menu for the party—but they weren’t quite as often, and he found that if he kept busy, they weren’t as painful either. He was starting to talk openly about Jesse now without feeling that sharp pain all the time, and it felt good to share experiences and memories with his friends, as it lessened the sorrow and made him remember more of the good times. It also helped knowing that Peter was in his life, and that there was the possibility of something as they got to know each other better. Life was definitely looking up.

Saturday was busy but Dillon took time during the afternoon to take a quick nap, feeling happy and relaxed as he drove to the theatre. He was eager to see Peter, having missed him during the week. They had talked a few more times after the phone sex, but only for a little while as Peter was trying to jam in as many current and potential clients as possible around the trip. He figured Peter would be tired, but hoped that they could be together tonight anyway. He had brought some lube and condoms, being optimistic about how the evening ended.

Dillon saw Peter as soon as he parked the car. He was waiting by the door, looking fantastic in a long wool coat, a dark turtleneck and dress slacks, and grinning at Dillon.
