Chapter Twelve

"Finish what we started yesterday," she commanded, as her fingers dug into his hair and pulled his mouth closer to hers.

"This is crazy—you're the heiress to a great fortune, the Chosen Woman of the Cheyenne. I'm just a penniless detective your father hired to protect you, not seduce you." His mouth was inches from hers, his breathing ragged as he struggled to retain his dwindling hold on reality when all he wanted to do was pull her into his arms and make love to her.

Fawn could feel the heat of his body, the desire pulsing through it as he shuddered, trying to hold back. But understanding what she must do, she would not be denied. Her breasts arched forward, pressing against his chest, and he groaned. She raised her lips and brushed them against his mouth. When she felt that male part of him grow as her hips rocked against his, she knew she had won.

"Ah, Fawn, dammit to hell," he muttered as he pulled her into his arms while they knelt by the fire. He lowered his mouth to hers in earnest now and she opened for him, just as she had yesterday, but this time when his body pressed so intimately against hers, she did not panic or push him away. Instead, his mercurial princess melted into him, every delicious curve molding to him as her tongue dueled with his.

Hot and sweet and hungry, his kiss robbed her of breath. Fawn returned it with every bit of the passion newly blossoming within her. He slanted his mouth, turning so their lips met at yet another angle. She followed where he led. Liquid fire flashed through her veins. She wanted desperately to know the mystery of man and woman, to feed the hunger burning so deep inside of her, like a flame consuming her.

His hands were everywhere, sliding down her back to the curve of her buttocks, lifting and holding them against his aching shaft. She rolled her hips against his until he growled deep in his throat. He unlaced the front of her shirt and reached inside to cup one breast, then the other, as his fingers teased her nipples. Already sensitized by pressing against his chest, they puckered into hard, needy nubs. When his mouth moved down her throat, trailing wet kisses to the wildly beating pulse point at her collarbone, she knew what she must have.

Fawn dug her nails into his impossibly broad shoulders and arched higher, urging his mouth lower, but her buckskin shirt was in the way. She slid her hands down the hard biceps of his arms, then reached for the bottom of her shirt, tugging it free of her belt and pulling it up over her head. Just as she tossed it aside, a shot rang out in the distance. Breathlessly, she murmured, "That's the first rabbit. We'll need at least two...or three."

"Your cousin will be a while..."

"I think he understands what's required," she replied as she continued to strip away her clothes.
