Chapter 24

Knox

That was a damn good game.

I could practically feel Lily in the stands, cheering us on. I know we played better because of her. The Grizzlies pressed us hard in that last period, but I held the line and didn’t let anything slip through. I’m damn proud of how we all played today.

Cruz has an odd look on his face as he grabs his bag, but then Lawson’s clapping me on the shoulder and I’m distracted. “Excited to see her?”

“I’ll race you,” Miles jokes.

We leave and go to find Andrea, Ben, and Lily. They should be waiting for us in the usual spot. I can’t wait to grab her and pull her close, smell her scent.

But when we get there, it’s only Andrea and Ben.

Andrea stands up immediately, worry washing over her face. “You didn’t find her?”

“What are you talking about?” Cruz asks.

“Lily. She went to go find you.”

“Why would she do that?”

“She’s gone into heat.”

I can feel the color drain from my face, and when I look at my three pack mates, they all look equally concerned.

Lily’s in pain. She needs us, and we don’t know where she is. This is her first heat ever, so it’s probably going to be even more intense than usual. I have to find her.

We drop our bags, mine sliding off my shoulder to the floor like an afterthought, and I turn with the others to run back down the corridor and look for her.

“We need to split up,” Cruz says, and I nod with agreement. It’s best if we split up and cover more ground. Just one of us can take care of Lily well enough to get her in a state where we can get her home. What’s important is we cover as much ground as possible as fast as we can.

We move in different directions, calling out Lily’s name. I try desperately to catch her scent, to keep my ears alert for any noise from her trying to call out to us in return.

My mind races with horrible images of how hurt she might be, how much she might be suffering. She’s my Omega, the only one I can envision bonding with, and she’s in pain. Everything in my body screams for me to find her and take care of her.

I search all through the employee area for her. She can’t have gotten far, and she had come to find us, so she probably got lost on her way to the locker room. Or worse, she collapsed. My heart pounds with the fear that I’ll find her passed out on the floor in the middle of the hallway.

But then, I catch it: her scent.

Relief, desire, and alarm flood through me all at once. I follow her scent down the hall and around the corner until I reach some kind of supply closet.

Well, at least we won’t be found this way. Everyone’s understanding of Omegas in heat and what it does to them, but that doesn’t mean people would be pleased if I was found having sex at what’s basically my workplace.
