Mime to Me

Dancers are storytellers. They communicate actions, feelings, and thoughts with their bodies. Sometimes they also use their faces and gestures to show an audience what they can’t say. This kind of acting—with only facial expressions and body language—is called mime (short for “pantomime”).

Certain mime gestures are like a special ballet sign language. Try them and see if your family or friends can guess what you’re telling them.
