Mobilise Those Pawn Majorities!

Black has just played his 15th. move (0-0) to bring the game to this position.

If you were playing the white pieces what moves would you be considering?

You have two pieces lined up against the b7 pawn, which is defended only once. You might regard Qxb7 as a candidate move.

Developing a rook to the open file (Rfd1) or to attack the c5 pawn (Rfc1) are two others.

The rook at a1 is a bit stuck at the moment so you might think the covering pawn move (b3) is worth considering. Maybe then you could think of doubling rooks on a file.

From a strategic viewpoint, you have a pawn majority on the kingside but Black has a pawn majority on the queenside which can advance without exposing his king – and, quite correctly, he’s started to mobilise those pawns. This freedom of movement gives Black the advantage.
