Chapter Twenty-Four

After an easy and delicious dinner and Frankie’s promise to Emilia by phone that Ellie and I will be there next Sunday, we turn in for the night. I haven’t shared my space with anyone since my divorce. Having Frankie here feels right, and I want her as long as she’ll have me. Early the next morning, I wake with Frankie pressed against me. I’m making an exception to my workout regime this morning.

My alarm hasn’t sounded, so it’s before six. Frankie is curled against me facing away. I wiggle backward, adding a sliver of space between us. My lips mark her shoulder and inward to the center of her back. A soft moan falls from her lips, but I’m not convinced she’s awake yet. I continue kissing a path down her back. When I reach the dip of her lower back, a small giggle echoes in my bedroom. I drag my tongue outward and move to hover over her.

“Morning, Sunshine.”

“Is it morning?” She doesn’t open her eyes.

“Yes, it is.”

She frowns and looks up at me. “You’re one of those jump-out-of-bed people, aren’t you?”

“Perhaps. Would that be a problem?” I grin at her.

“Not necessarily. You’ll need to be stealth to get up for your workouts while I sleep for almost another hour each morning.”

“I can work on it as long as we wake up together.”

“What about Ellie?”

She’s incredible. She sees the example her waking up in my bed would be for my daughter and wants to talk about it. “What about her? She has her own room.”

Frankie rolls her eyes and shakes her head at me. “I mean—”

“I know what you mean, and I appreciate your concern. I need to be able to be both a boyfriend and a dad. They aren’t mutually exclusive. We, you and I ‘we,’ not Ellie and I, need to find a respectful balance, especially since we’ll be working together too.”

“Okay. We should get moving to work though, right? After all, it is morning.”

I lower myself on top of Frankie and kiss her before hopping off my bed. “What does your schedule look like today?”

“I need to set up some interviews for an assistant and work on the budget and timeline for Cooper. What about you?” She hangs her feet off the bed and joins me in the bathroom.

“I have to wrap up the Omni project. The soft opening is Saturday. Then I can focus solely on Cooper, which we need to schedule a meeting for next week.”

“I’ll check my calendar when I get to the office.” After brushing her teeth, she opens the door to the shower and turns on the water. She strips off her clothes and sets one foot inside. “Are you joining me?” she asks, looking over her shoulder.

“We will be late for work if I join you.”

She frowns. “You’re extremely thorough.”

“Is that a compliment?”

“Perhaps.” She steps into the shower, and despite my statement, I watch the water running over the curve of her perfect ass for a few too many moments.
