This stiff drawing is weak and unconvincing—this woman might be feeling happy and proud, or she might simply be in a pleasant mood. Her body is too straight and there is no sense of motion.

But this drawing communicates much more clearly. There is no ambiguity about how this young lady is feeling—she’s strutting around looking like she just got a big promotion at work!

This guy’s facial expression “reads” misery, but his body language isn’t clear: He might be having a bad day, or he might have a little indigestion—his posture doesn’t communicate his attitude.
