The Apopka Veterans Memorial is located in Kit Nelson Park, which is situated off Park Avenue between First Street and Orange Street. This monument, created by Preston Willingham, was donated by the Veterans Memorial Association of Apopka and dedicated on Veterans Day in 1988. It honors all five branches of the military, with their emblems cast in bronze on each side of the flagpole base. (Author’s collection.)

The DeLand Naval Air Station (DNAS) Museum is located at the DeLand Airport, the former site of the DeLand Naval Air Station that operated there from 1942 to 1946. The building that houses the museum dates back to 1926 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1994, local veterans and volunteers began restoration of the house to use as a museum to honor veterans. The museum was dedicated on November 11, 1995. (Author’s collection.)
