Overcome by starvation and exhaustion, Léa was no longer able to sit up. She had fallen on her left side with her back against the wall. Looking up toward the ceiling of the cell, Léa’s eyes never moved as Tara gently sat beside her. Moving slowly, she gently eased her best friend’s head onto her lap. Léa’s eyes never moved and she appeared to have stopped breathing.

Tara looked up at Janet with panic in her eyes. But Janet was slapping gobs of plastic explosive on the inside of the cell door. Looking back down, Tara saw Emma had readied the Léa Pack and was beginning to roll her away from the cell wall. As her body rolled, Léa took a shallow breath. Her eyes rolled from side to side. She took another breath. The cuffs and shackles around Léa’s wrists and ankles clanked on the stone floor.

“Can’t we take those off?” whispered Tara.

“No time,” whispered Emma. “We gotta get going.”

As Léa lay on her stomach, two more commandos arrived in the cell. There was barely enough room to stand as two more arrived. Emma gently rolled Léa on her back and finished adjusting the pack’s straps.

As Emma snapped the last clasp into place, another one of the commandos knelt beside Léa and gently placed his fingers against her neck. He placed his hand on her forehead, then peered into her eyes. His other hand expertly unzipped a small black pouch and pulled out a syringe.

“Swab her forearm,” whispered the medic.

Tara saw the wipe in the small medical pack and quickly cleaned off Léa’s arm. The syringe was quickly inserted, the contents injected and needle withdrawn. The medic then dashed the needle against the concrete floor breaking it, before he tossed it into the corner of the cell.

“Just a little vitamin shot,” whispered the medic.

Emma quickly turned her back to Léa and had dropped down on one knee. She looked over her shoulder at the medic.

“Ready when you are,” she whispered.

Another commando in the room joined the medic as they gently lifted Léa off the floor. As her body rose, Léa’s head lifelessly flopped back. But whatever was in the shot was taking effect. Her eyes appeared to be focusing just a bit as Emma slipped her arms through the shoulder straps. Léa’s head slowly rolled forward as Emma gently tightened the shoulder straps and stood up.

Tara rose along side Léa, never loosing eye contact. Whatever was in the shot was working as Léa’s breathing was picking up and becoming more regular. Her eyes roamed around the cell, briefly looking at the wall beside the toilet. More commandos were easing through the window and into the cell.

“Ten seconds,” whispered Janet.

The commandos began turning their back to the door as they crouched down along the cell walls. Emma took several steps back toward a corner by the window, but was the only one not to turn her face to the wall.
