It wasnât long before they headed back out to join the others.
âThere has to be an explanation for this,â Darla insisted as she walked beside Sarah, touching her friend on the shoulder. âYou and I both know Isaac is no killer.â
âThen who in this group would have done it?â Sarah asked, looking sadly at Darla. âThatâs the problem here. Other than your parents, I know all these people really well myself, and I canât imagine any of them doing this. And donât get me wrongâIâm not saying that either of your parents is to blame, but someone here is guilty. Can you imagine one of your parents doing this?â
âNo,â Darla said firmly despite some of her past grievances with them.
Sarah cleared her throat. âForgive me for saying this because I consider you a friend, but are you sure? You havenât really known your father all that long. Are you sure it couldnât be him?â
âHeâd have no reason to kill her,â Darla insisted. âIâm sure of that.â
âWell, someone in your group did,â Sarah said. âWe just have to figure out who.â
âSomeone had to have somehow snuck onto the golf course without being seen by anyone or have been caught on camera,â Darla said. âMaybe it was someone who knew where the cameras are located and knew how to stay off them.â
âThatâs an interesting idea, but I donât think itâs likely. You would have to be very familiar with the course to know where all the cameras are,â Sarah said.
âI guess that is true,â Darla said.
âAnd I take it that Isaac isnât familiar with the course, and of course, if heâs innocent, he would have no reason to dodge the cameras,â Sarah said. âSo right now, we need to figure out why Isaac wasnât on that video.â
âHe said he was out this way, but he clearly wasnât,â Darla started.
âThat means we need to figure out where he really was and why he would lie about it,â Sarah said. âBut for now, letâs talk to Tamara. She said she was over by the double moat, right?â
âYeah,â Darla said as they started walking again toward the golf crew.
Tamara and Isaac were still standing off to the side, talking quietly to one another and both looking quite worried about the ordeal they now found themselves in. Darla could tell that her friends were trying to play it cool, but they were not doing a very good job of that at the moment.
As Darla and Sarah drew close to where her friends were, Darla noticed her father standing and heading toward them. âDarla, has your officer friend found anything out?â he asked, stopping at Tamara and Isaac.
âNot quite,â Sarah said quickly before Darla could comment about what they had learned at the country club.
Reggie sighed. âIs there anything I can do to help?â
âNot right now,â Sarah said. âWeâre just trying to get a picture of where everyone went after you all got separated. Itâs the only chance we have to rule out suspects and find out what happened.
