One week later

“I want to take you out,” Wolf said, entering Rain’s bedroom. He hadn’t allowed her to sleep here for the past week, even though she kept on trying to escape him. He noticed every time he put his hands on her though, she seemed to lose her ability to think and to turn him down, which he found incredibly … arousing.

Rain turned toward him and frowned. “What?”

“Tonight. I’m taking you out to dinner.” He took a step toward her, needing those lips on his.

“Isn’t that dangerous?”

“Why?”

“I mean … what about other people?” she asked.

He chuckled. “Rain, you’re going to be in a restaurant, surrounded by people, but knowing your daughter is safe here at home. I think I can manage to treat you to dinner without it being too difficult.”

“Don’t threaten my daughter,” Rain said.

“Don’t give me reason to.”

The invitation had lost its appeal. This was something he recognized Rain doing. Each time he appeared human to her, she seemed to have no choice but to put their situation clearly. He was her captor.

When his mouth was on her or dick inside her, she didn’t seem to mind.

He tutted to himself as he left the room, heading to the front door where Mitchell was already waiting.

The restaurant was booked in advance for the night. He never expected her to say no. Good food, thrilling company. What woman would say no?

Mitchell didn’t say a word as they walked down the steps toward the waiting car. The windows were blacked out, and his driver stood beside the passenger as he always did during these trips. Mitchell climbed into the car.

There was only the middle seat between them. The partition was already up, giving him privacy.

“Speak,” Wolf said.

“She has been receiving calls from two schools that she was supposed to go and visit.”

“Two?” Wolf asked.

“Yes. She had already visited another two. They are in her surrounding area but far away. The current schools are nearby, one private, another public.”

“Evelyn’s of age to start school.”

“Exactly.”

Silence rang out, and it started to irritate him.

“Why don’t you just tell me what is on your mind, Mitchell?”

“Sir, she is a liability. Leanne already informed me she was hoping to escape.”

“She’s a woman fearing for her own safety as well as her child’s. Trust me, I understand her wanting to get away.”

“I can arrange for another woman to keep you company.”

Wolf lifted his hand. “I’m not in the mood to discuss this with you. I’m not disposing of Rain and Evelyn. They’re a part of my life now, and you’re going to have to get used to it.”

Mitchell released a breath.

“I’m the boss.”

“I know, sir. I’m sorry.”

“I get that you’re worried. Women and children pose a risk.”

“Not just to your enemies, but to those who would seek to bring you down.”

“I know what I’m doing,” Wolf said. He wasn’t like his father. He knew the risks of what he was doing, but he also knew how to take care of them, like now. Inside his suit pocket lay ten thousand dollars.
