I woke up the following morning uncomfortably warm. At some point in the night before, both Kyrian and Tristan got into bed with me, one on each side, a sandwich of men with me in the middle, sweltering in their body heat. My mind was a fog swirling between remembering the incredibly intense sex Iâd had with Liam in the dining room and the gut-punching guilt I still felt that Iâd done something very, very wrong.
I scooted myself out from between the men, and neither of them stirred. It occurred to me that this was the first opportunity any of us had been given to sleep in the comfort of a real bed since we left to face Danu. Quietly, I moved to the vanity and began refreshing myself the best that I could. The sun outside my window was just barely peeking over the horizon, washing my chambers in dim light, so I knew it would be some time before Clara and Corby began their morning routine. The reassuring sound of bird songs was the only sound over the sleepy noises of the Kingsâ steady breathing. I was grateful that I awoke so early because I needed time to sort through my feelings before I was inevitably met with whatever questions the General and the leader King had for me. I said a silent prayer that my worst fears wouldnât come to fruition and that the two men who slept peacefully behind me were not going to tell me that they hated me for being so easily seduced by their absolute fiend of a brother.
He wasnât a fiend, though, not really. As evil as I knew him to be since coming to Savage Reach, I had also seen evidence of the man he could be if he so chose that path. Liam was not nearly as convincing as he thought he was, but his flirtation with the darkness remained so tempting that my craving for him was insatiable. My feelings around Liam and the pull I felt toward him were different from that of his brothers. With Kyrian and Tristan, they each came to me willingly in their own time, and both happened to come to me completely only after I had done something remarkable in my own sense. I didnât fault them for that, but it felt safe. They both were exactly who they were after reconnecting with their souls.
Kyrian was always going to be my bodyguard and my security blanket. He made me feel protected against the danger in this world but treated me as an equal in status. Our relationship thrived in mutual respect, and it was evident he took pride in being the first one to stand by my side in the face of his brothers.
Tristan was the man who fulfilled my need for a patient, calm kind of love. He was sensitive and took great care in treating me with a compassionate touch. Loving Tristan was like loving someone Iâd known my whole life.
