Cerene

When I get to the dock it’s fucking mad. Like completely insane. There are Reapers running everywhere, up and down the ship and screaming.

Some are landing in vicious looking little flying machines, others are tearing from every available door and ripping into them. The sounds of battle are fucking fierce. I’ve been in plenty of fights but the sounds of Reapers hitting other Reapers are fucking terrifying.

As well as yells of fury and short, sharp sounds of people getting hit, there is laughter and mad cackling. Strange ripping noises accompany gulps as some of them actually tear limbs off others and take bites out of them before returning to the fray.

No one is paying much attention to me. They are fully focused on the fight. I’ve never heard of Reapers attacking each other before, and even with my long and bloody history laid out behind me, this fucks me up.

One runs at me with a battle axe over his head. He’s going to chop me in two, right down the middle. I roll across the floor, coming up with a metal pole that was rolling across the deck. I slam it into him as I roll to my feet, making him buckle over. He drops the axe and I snatch it up, cutting him into two through the belly.

I launch into the fight. The axe is too heavy for me and soon I lose it to a rough throw. Along the way I grab any weapon I can get my hands on—blades, swords, clubs—ad kill with them. I kill with every turn.

This is what I was made for. Now I finally feel like myself again. The world has narrowed into step-slash-stab and my mind is wiped clean. My body is a machine and I use it the way it is meant to be used.

It starts to trickle through me that there must be another ship over top of us. I know that the black cat’s boss is out there, as well as Slade who’s hanging with my sister. Is it Slade attacking, trying to liberate me? I didn’t think his ship was big enough to launch this many fighters.

The little black jets are landing all over the Hatchet’s deck and covering her up like little beetles. So far, carnage looks like their only goal. I’m starting to tire and moving my arms and legs is getting more difficult by the second. I realize that if I’m going to survive, I need to take one of those black shuttles.

Where?

My previous instructions to myself dawn on me again. Fuck it. Don’t think about that yet. Just get out of here.

Pain is starting to run through my body, bone deep. I need to rest. I need to lay down for just twenty minutes, eat and drink something. With my stores replenished I could keep going for another few hours. I don’t even know how long I’ve been fighting without a break.

I get behind some crates and hold my guts in. My limbs are shuddering, and all my wounds are bleeding.
