After midnight, they sat out by the pool eating cold pizza and drinking warm beer, trading small snippets of information. By the time they tumbled back into bed together, once again eager for touch and taste, Cadence knew that Tobias’ favourite food was pecan pie, that his boyhood dog had been named Zephyr and that his one attempt to join the mile-high club had resulted in a concussion for his partner and a dislocated elbow for him.

He in turn had learnt that Cadence was deathly allergic to wasp stings, that she cried every time she watched The Muppet Christmas Carol, and that she never wore panties on a Sunday.

The sun was peeking over the horizon when they finally settled under the covers, too blissfully exhausted to do anything more than curl around each other and sleep.
