Simon yawned and tried to go to sleep. He heard the guys outside, though after a while those sounds faded as sleep took over.

The door opened and he barely moved. He heard the others moving briefly through the trailer, whispering a few words, and then after a few seconds, Jacky lay down next to him. The next thing Simon knew, it was morning, and the air was filled with the scent of coffee. He groaned and slowly sat up, stretching his back, which felt a tad stiff. Jacky was still asleep, and Simon thought about lying back down, but Ryan handed him a mug of coffee, which Simon took gratefully. “Everything okay?” Simon asked, looking toward the door.

“I didn’t hear anything more, and Dante’s already up and gone.

He wanted to make sure our visitors got what was coming to them.” Simon sipped his coffee, the rich liquid instantly waking him up. “Why would people do that?” he asked, and then he wished he hadn’t. He already knew the answer. “Sorry, stupid question.”

“I doubt they’ll get the chance to do it again. Dante will see to that. He was so angry he never went back to sleep.” Simon heard footsteps and the door opened. Dante stepped in, nodding to him before turning to Ryan.

“The trailer’s fine, no real damage, and I spoke to one of the other officials. He seemed to have this ‘boys will be boys’ attitude until I told him he could kiss any personal appearances good-bye.” Dante prowled once again. “I also told him that I’d boycott next year’s rodeo and would tell my friends to do the same. That changed the fat fucker’s attitude mighty quick.”

“Jacky’s still asleep,” Ryan whispered Jacky groaned from next to Simon and lifted his head off the pillow. “Not anymore,” he mumbled, and then he burrowed back under the covers. “What time is it?”

“Eight o’clock,” Dante said in a normal voice. “Simon needs to check in by nine, and we’ll need to be finding our seats if we want to get a good look, so get that butt of yours moving.” Dante lightly 90
