“HOPE I can ride today.” Smoke rubbed the seat of his jeans. “Drilled two nights in a row. That’s never happened before.”

“It’s only eight seconds.” Trey gave him a smug grin. “If you could cowboy your way through assless chaps to make the whistle, you can do this.”

“Not quite the same thing.” Smoke stomped his boots on. “What do you want to bet I score big today?”

“In the ring or in bed?”

Smoke leered at him. “Both. I feel a winning streak coming on.”

“Funny, so do I.”

“Want to make a small, friendly wager?”

“Whoever loses rides tonight.”

A touch of evil glinted in Smoke’s grin. “Only two more rides between me and my buckle.”

“You mean my buckle, right?” Trey fastened his belt and gave the buckle a quick polish with his sleeve. He’d won this one only a month ago, but Smoke hadn’t been at that event to compete for it. Usually when they went head to head, Trey gave it up to Smoke. Nerves, maybe. But Trey couldn’t shake the feeling that he was riding a big lucky streak this weekend.

Smoke took out a coin and tossed it. He clapped his hand over it without looking. “Heads you pay for breakfast.”

“Done.”

Smoke’s face cracked Trey up. “Tails. Lucky dog. Maybe I better rethink our bet.”

“Too late now. Come on, I’ll buy the coffee.”
