Bruce Lee: Gnostic Christian?

Throughout my work with Bruce Lee and his philosophy, I have tried to use it as an opportunity to educate people on other areas of vital human interest and knowledge. In the previous chapter, I used Bruce Lee to introduce people to humanistic psychology. In the following chapter, I use Bruce Lee to introduce people to Gnostic Christianity, a long-dead sect of Christianity that was eradicated in the fourth century, anno domini.

This article is distinctive because it marks the first time that his philosophy has been discussed and recognized by the scholarly establishment, among them Princeton University's Dr. Elaine Pagels, a world-recognized expert on the Gnostic scriptures.

This article was also somewhat scandalous at the time of its publication. It was a bold move on my part to make such a comparison. Fans of Bruce Lee had already been accused of deifying him. What I did in this article was seen by some as the ultimate deification: making a direct comparison between Bruce Lee and Jesus Christ. However, those critics missed the entire point of the article, which clearly stated that Bruce Lee, by his own definition, was no saint. The real point of the article was to introduce his fans to some new ideas and to show them that there are other sources of knowledge arriving at similar conclusions. Part of my work in philosophy, psychology, and theology has been to show the commonalties that exist between different belief systems. My position has always been, and continues to be, that the clearest vision of what is can be gleaned from the consensus that develops from unrelated fields.

For example, quantum physics teaches us of the principle of the "Big Bang", the primal atom from which all things developed. Taoism teaches us that all things derive from a single source called the Tao, or the "Grand Terminus". And Judeo-Christian theology teaches that all things came from a single, primal source, which they identify as God. The fact that these different groups, in many ways in direct opposition to each other, would find themselves at a crossroads together is very telling.

Likewise, I found it fascinating that Bruce Lee came to share so many similar ideas with a long dead religion that he never had an opportunity to know about. It seemed, to me, another example of that consensus of truth.
