Q: One can speculate what direction Bruce would have taken had he not met his untimely death, but what avenues do you think he would have pursued?

Diana Lee Inosanto: I think he probably would have continued to make movies that were pertinent to propagating his philosophy, such as the original Silent Flute film concept, which eventually was done by David Carradine. I think definitely he’d have picked movies that were philosophically relevant to his message. The Kung Fu series, the original TV show, was his idea and he was going to be contracted, but it was a shame that Hollywood’s racism didn’t let him do this. I can’t think of anything that would have been more devastating than to come up with a project like Kung Fu and have people say, “No, we like the project but we don’t like you.” How devastating can that be? Yet, he had the guts and courage to say, “I’m not going to let this get me down. I’m going to keep moving on.” And he made these wonderful movies coming out from Hong Kong.

Q: Can you compare Uncle Bruce to some of the iconic figures that we all admire?

Diana Lee Inosanto: He did a lot for the Asian community in showing that the Asian man can be a star and courageous. What set him apart is that you can see him come ‘alive’ in his philosophy. He was the real deal. A lot of the times these actors were playing parts, but for him he was the real deal. He really was this top fighter and a very strong man with great vision and conviction. And I think this makes him so special compared to a lot of the other celebrities. He was the real deal.
