There’s a weight on my finger that wasn’t there last night—it’s suffocating. My heart drops the second I touch a ring.

“What the fuck?” I mumble, my mouth tasting like death, and I raise my head too quickly. “Okay, that’s not happening.”

Taking a few breaths, I attempt at a slower pace, and there, on my left hand, resides a diamond ring.

This can’t be real.

“Mornin’, wife.”

I gasp, whipping around, and instantly regret my decision as my head sways.

“Lex, what—” I hold my tongue as he leans back on the wall, focusing his gaze on my chest while sipping his coffee. Glancing down, I roll my eyes, grab the sheet, and cover my bare breasts. “What happened last night?”

“Looks like we got hitched,” he says, then nods to the end table. “Got you some water and pain meds.”

I squeeze my eyes shut, willing myself to wake up from this dream, then glance down at my finger again where the rock still sits. “No, we didn’t.”

Pushing off the wall, he strolls to sit next to me. “I’m in the dark just as much as you are, but photos don’t lie.”

“What photos?”

Lennox draws his phone from his pocket, brings up his photo app, then hands it to me. There are numerous pictures of a wedding chapel—some of us standing with an officiant. Enzo’s next to me with a bowtie secured around his head instead of his neck, wearing a flower crown, and holding a bouquet with a blonde chick attached to his hip.

“Oh my—I’m gonna be sick.” I press my hands to my mouth as I burp, whatever content is still left in my stomach rising, and I swallow it, scrunching my nose at the aftertaste. “Fuck.”

“That was sexy,” he says, then chuckles as I glare at him.

“How do you know we actually got married?”

“If the photos and rings aren’t proof enough, this is.” Pulling a paper from his back pocket, he unfolds it and hands me the crinkled sheet. “We’ll receive our marriage certificate in three to four weeks.”

I look the forum over and groan. “No, we won’t because this marriage isn’t happening! We’re getting it annulled. We weren’t in the right state of mind.”

He stays quiet for a moment, staring into his mug, then looks at me. “What if I don’t feel the same way?”

“What? Lex, we can’t stay married—we’re not even together!”

“We can be. We’ll make it work somehow.”

A laugh bursts through my lips as I shake my head. “No way, not happening.”

My head feels like it’s going to explode as I climb off the bed, dragging the top sheet with me, and the coffee spills on Lennox as I yank the white fabric out from under him. He jumps, pulling his drenched shirt away from his skin, and I feel awful.

“Shit. Sorry.”

Grabbing my phone, I continue to the bathroom and lock it behind me. This can’t be happening right now. I can’t believe he wants to stay married. That makes zero sense. Looking in the mirror, I scrunch my nose at my pale cheeks, dark circles, and smudged makeup, in need of a long hot shower.
