Brick listened then knocked on the closed door.
âCome in,â came a manâs voice from the other side.
Opening the door, Brick found KC, Savage Halo member and a good friend, sitting at the cluttered desk. His feet were propped on the corner as he nursed a bottle of expensive whiskey. His fingers were covered in silver bands and tattoos.
Removing his mask, Brick rubbed his jaw. âThanks for seeing me.â
âOf course. Have a seat. It sounded urgent.â KC dropped his feet and resituated a stack of papers on the desk. Behind him hanging on the wall was a row of pictures of nude women.
Brick sat in one of the leather chairs and stretched his legs, hooking his ankles. âLooks like the club is doing well.â
âI hope you donât mind a little friendly competition.â
âNot at all.â
âI heard you got yourself an olâ ball and chain,â KC snorted and tipped the bottle.
âI got married. Yes.â Brick didnât consider Ireland a ball and chain. Even if the situation was only temporary, he still wouldnât consider her a weight. She was a beautiful, smart, successful woman. And man should be happy to have a woman like her.
âWell, congratulations, buddy. Why did you need to see me?â
âIâm looking for someone.â
âHell, we get a lot of someoneâs âround here. What makes you think Iâd knowââ
âMeg Atlas. Ring a bell?â
Hi lips thinned. âYeah, I know her.â
âDo you remember seeing her?â He watched the man closely, looking for a flicker in his expression.
âWhy do you think people like wearing masks? They want their privacy,â he grumbled and lit a cigarette.
âWe go pretty far back, right? Who helped you get this place up and running? Who put a good word in with the Royalty for you?â Brick didnât think twice about pulling out the favor card.
The man rubbed his forehead and blew a smoke ring in the air. âWhat makes you think sheâd be here?â
Brick eased forward. âI think sheâs with Axle.â
âYou think? Or know?â
âWhat I know is that youâve seen her.â The truth as written all over his buddyâs features.
âHell, dude. Come on. I heard you had some issues with King and now you want issues with Axle too? Donât drag me into any shit.â He blew out a long breath. âIâve worked hard for what I got now.â
âHow many favors have I done for you in the last year, KC?â
âLookâ¦Iâ¦:
âIâm only asking did you see her and was she with Axle?â
After a long hesitation, he snuffed his cigarette out in a pop can and pushed up from the chair. âI need to go take care of some business downstairs. Be a good friend and watch the monitors for me. Sorry I couldnât be any more help.â He went to the door and before he opened it, he said quietly, âNow weâre even.â
Brick waited for the door to close then jumped up and rounded the desk to sit behind the row of security monitors. He scanned the ten different angles of inside the club.
Damn. This wasnât going to be easy.
Finding Meg in a crowd of everyone wearing masks was like trying to find a particular ant in an ant hill.
