Brick listened then knocked on the closed door.

“Come in,” came a man’s voice from the other side.

Opening the door, Brick found KC, Savage Halo member and a good friend, sitting at the cluttered desk. His feet were propped on the corner as he nursed a bottle of expensive whiskey. His fingers were covered in silver bands and tattoos.

Removing his mask, Brick rubbed his jaw. “Thanks for seeing me.”

“Of course. Have a seat. It sounded urgent.” KC dropped his feet and resituated a stack of papers on the desk. Behind him hanging on the wall was a row of pictures of nude women.

Brick sat in one of the leather chairs and stretched his legs, hooking his ankles. “Looks like the club is doing well.”

“I hope you don’t mind a little friendly competition.”

“Not at all.”

“I heard you got yourself an ol’ ball and chain,” KC snorted and tipped the bottle.

“I got married. Yes.” Brick didn’t consider Ireland a ball and chain. Even if the situation was only temporary, he still wouldn’t consider her a weight. She was a beautiful, smart, successful woman. And man should be happy to have a woman like her.

“Well, congratulations, buddy. Why did you need to see me?”

“I’m looking for someone.”

“Hell, we get a lot of someone’s ‘round here. What makes you think I’d know—”

“Meg Atlas. Ring a bell?”

Hi lips thinned. “Yeah, I know her.”

“Do you remember seeing her?” He watched the man closely, looking for a flicker in his expression.

“Why do you think people like wearing masks? They want their privacy,” he grumbled and lit a cigarette.

“We go pretty far back, right? Who helped you get this place up and running? Who put a good word in with the Royalty for you?” Brick didn’t think twice about pulling out the favor card.

The man rubbed his forehead and blew a smoke ring in the air. “What makes you think she’d be here?”

Brick eased forward. “I think she’s with Axle.”

“You think? Or know?”

“What I know is that you’ve seen her.” The truth as written all over his buddy’s features.

“Hell, dude. Come on. I heard you had some issues with King and now you want issues with Axle too? Don’t drag me into any shit.” He blew out a long breath. “I’ve worked hard for what I got now.”

“How many favors have I done for you in the last year, KC?”

“Look…I…:

“I’m only asking did you see her and was she with Axle?”

After a long hesitation, he snuffed his cigarette out in a pop can and pushed up from the chair. “I need to go take care of some business downstairs. Be a good friend and watch the monitors for me. Sorry I couldn’t be any more help.” He went to the door and before he opened it, he said quietly, “Now we’re even.”

Brick waited for the door to close then jumped up and rounded the desk to sit behind the row of security monitors. He scanned the ten different angles of inside the club.

Damn. This wasn’t going to be easy.

Finding Meg in a crowd of everyone wearing masks was like trying to find a particular ant in an ant hill.
