Chapter 12

The next morning, we held a ceremony to give the Lord his new crown and being crowned by a God was apparently a big deal. However, the King sat alone in the room when I walked in.

“Lord Abraxas? Are you okay?” I asked, walking in the room.

“No, God Matthew, I don’t feel like I should be the Lord anymore. I killed two of my sons and am responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people,” Abraxas said, hanging his head.

“You’re not responsible for what happened, though. You were under the control of Nemesis, and everything that happened can be laid at her feet.”

“How was I corrupted? We were devout followers of Zeus.”

“You forget, Zeus has been dead for eighteen years. You had no God to protect you or your followers, and I think that is why you were targeted.”

“I still think abdicating the throne to my son would be the right thing to do. I can act as a regent until word gets to Fargen, and I wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t want to come back.”

“Abraxas, I can’t tell you what you want to hear. You have to listen to your heart and do what you think best.”

“A very God thing to say, Matthew. May I see what a God can do when doing good?”

“Of course,” I said and removed the cloth covering the crown.

“Beautiful,” Abraxas praised and added, “I have made my decision. Fargen will take the crown, that is, if he wants. I will stand behind him. I know I wasn’t in control of my actions, but there is too much done that can’t be undone.”

“If that is your wish, I will respect it, Regent Abraxas.” I recovered the crown and put it on a stand next to the throne.

“There is one thing I would request, Regent Abraxas. I’m in need of a ship for a quest to the island at the center of the Lake of Blue. Can you provide this?” I asked.

“You will have our fastest ship, and I would ask that you take Marcus with you. When it comes to ships, he was one of the best. Safe journey, God Matthew.”

A few hours later, we were sailing down the river to the Lake of Blue with a stop at Lakeside Home Village.

I had packed everything in secret and would give them all out when everyone was together again.

I learned that Pip didn’t have a good night. She was having nightmares, so Shana was up with her all night.

Sabby was seasick. She said bears belonged on land not on an ugly boat.

Luckily for us, it didn’t take long to reach Lakeside Home Village. I sent the girls and Marcus to find Mayvin and Emily while I pulled out their surprises. I laid them on the deck and covered them all. I knew someone would be in bound shortly.

As if on cue, Mayvin flew into my waiting arms and smothered me in kisses.

“I missed you, Matthew,” Mayvin said between kisses. “I protected Emily just like you wanted, and she healed everyone, I think.
