Chapter Seventeen

Could we invite Kami and Sorryn to have dinner with us?”

The king nodded. “If that is what you wish, my dearest, then so be it.”

Surprised at his agreement, she thanked him.

Loki bowed briefly to her and her parents then said to her, “I will meet you in the dining hall later.”

Her parents hurried off to some pressing matter they needed to attend to before dinner, but as Loki made to turn away, she suddenly stopped him with a small gesture.

“Where are you going to be?” She didn't want to leave him alone. Nor did she want to be alone.

He cocked his head. “I'm going to check in on my team. Groups are leaving tomorrow morning for a mission. Is there anything you require of me, princess?”

She pursed her lips. No. Not really. I’m just worried that psycho put some weird voodoo hex on you, and it is freaking me out! Plus, as weird as it seems, you bring me a strange sense of comfort in this bizarre, unbelievable place. Don’t leave me.

What the heck was wrong with her? Since when did she get comfort from him and his stoic presence? Ugh.

Adeila must have been staring at him for too long because Kami came to her rescue. “Why don't you show me your room? I bet it's so cool!”

Adeila smiled at Kami, but her eyes remained on Loki's for a moment before she turned to Kami. “Yes, that would be great.”

She nodded to Loki, and after another moment of studying her, he turned on his heel and fled in the opposite direction. Sorryn gave her a bow, a silly grin, and went after Loki.

She blew out a breath. “Thanks, Kam.”

“No problem, I'll see you at dinner.” The small woman gave a half-smile and slowly turned away.

“Wait, don't you want to see my room?”

“I mean, yeah, but... I was just...”

Adeila rolled her eyes and grabbed Kami’s arm. “Let's go.”
