I t sucked worse than Noah remembered, being the new man on the team. Still, somehow, they pulled out their third home win. Even with the nonstop training, Noahâs entire body ached from the effort. It was the good kind of ache, reminding him of his dreams. Several players tried stopping him on his way out the door, inviting him to some bar or party. He cut them all down with varying degrees of civility. All he wanted was to get back to Troy. He loved the four p.m. slot. The game let out early enough for him to get to Sandraâs without fear of waking anyone, especially since he still had a few stops to make. Even though it had only been a week since Troyâs release, Troy was already bored off his ass. Since Troy was unwilling to go anywhere, Noah needed to get inventive if he hoped to keep the man entertained .
Sandra was all smiles as he came through the door and, as always, trying to feed him. He held up the bag of food he held, showing her heâd be fine. Bending, he let her kiss his cheek .
âHeâs still hiding in his room, afraid heâll inconvenience me with his presence .â
With a sigh, Noah headed for Troyâs room. Heâd been inside the small three-bedroom home more times than he could count. It had been like a second home to him. A second family. It was almost funny how little had changed. The only thing different was him .
Noah didnât bother knocking. Honestly, it took too much maneuvering to get the door open with his hands full to bother with formalities. Troy glanced his way as Noah came bursting inside. Propped against a mountain of pillows and looking bored as Hell, the first sight of Troy punched Noah in the chest. Damn. He loved this man. It never lessened .
Troyâs lips parted in surprise. âI didnât think Iâd see you tonight .â
Tossing his haul onto the bed, Noah shed his light jacket. âWhy ?â
âYou had a game,â Troy answered as if it shouldâve been obvious .
Noah shrugged. âLots of people go to work and still come home afterward.â Troy didnât argue it wasnât Noahâs home, a detail Noah didnât miss. âAnyhow, you should be glad for it, because I come bearing gifts and Iâm determined to be the cure for boredom.â He pulled the first and most important item from his bag. âSnacks, because Iâm starving and need help eating all this so I donât feel like a total glutton.â Noah pulled another item out along with his Kindle. âPlanets of Warlords ,â he said, flashing the game Troyâs way before holding up his e-reader. âAnd Iâve downloaded the strategy guide because you know we suck .â
Troyâs smile made everything right in Noahâs world before it fell again. âThat sounds great, but my game system is at my apartment .â
âIs it?â Noah asked, being as obnoxious as possible. He pulled the final item out of the bag.
