I t sucked worse than Noah remembered, being the new man on the team. Still, somehow, they pulled out their third home win. Even with the nonstop training, Noah’s entire body ached from the effort. It was the good kind of ache, reminding him of his dreams. Several players tried stopping him on his way out the door, inviting him to some bar or party. He cut them all down with varying degrees of civility. All he wanted was to get back to Troy. He loved the four p.m. slot. The game let out early enough for him to get to Sandra’s without fear of waking anyone, especially since he still had a few stops to make. Even though it had only been a week since Troy’s release, Troy was already bored off his ass. Since Troy was unwilling to go anywhere, Noah needed to get inventive if he hoped to keep the man entertained .

Sandra was all smiles as he came through the door and, as always, trying to feed him. He held up the bag of food he held, showing her he’d be fine. Bending, he let her kiss his cheek .

“He’s still hiding in his room, afraid he’ll inconvenience me with his presence .”

With a sigh, Noah headed for Troy’s room. He’d been inside the small three-bedroom home more times than he could count. It had been like a second home to him. A second family. It was almost funny how little had changed. The only thing different was him .

Noah didn’t bother knocking. Honestly, it took too much maneuvering to get the door open with his hands full to bother with formalities. Troy glanced his way as Noah came bursting inside. Propped against a mountain of pillows and looking bored as Hell, the first sight of Troy punched Noah in the chest. Damn. He loved this man. It never lessened .

Troy’s lips parted in surprise. “I didn’t think I’d see you tonight .”

Tossing his haul onto the bed, Noah shed his light jacket. “Why ?”

“You had a game,” Troy answered as if it should’ve been obvious .

Noah shrugged. “Lots of people go to work and still come home afterward.” Troy didn’t argue it wasn’t Noah’s home, a detail Noah didn’t miss. “Anyhow, you should be glad for it, because I come bearing gifts and I’m determined to be the cure for boredom.” He pulled the first and most important item from his bag. “Snacks, because I’m starving and need help eating all this so I don’t feel like a total glutton.” Noah pulled another item out along with his Kindle. “Planets of Warlords ,” he said, flashing the game Troy’s way before holding up his e-reader. “And I’ve downloaded the strategy guide because you know we suck .”

Troy’s smile made everything right in Noah’s world before it fell again. “That sounds great, but my game system is at my apartment .”

“Is it?” Noah asked, being as obnoxious as possible. He pulled the final item out of the bag.
