“Come with me.” Teo grabbed my arm and tugged me toward the door, but I pulled back, dragging my feet.

“Where are we going?”

“You keep saying that we are supposed to be a team. That you are Donna Monticelli, and that I should quit coddling you. Well, here’s your chance to show me how much of a team we really are.” Teo dragged me down the hall toward the door to the wine cellar. Panic shot through me, giving me a new strength to fight against his grip on my arm.

“Teo, what are you doing? Let go of me.” I tugged against his grip, not enough for him to release me but enough to make him stop.

Teo spun me to face him, gripping my arms and pinning them to my sides. “I am going to be don of this family. My father has told me to handle this matter however I see fit. As my partner it is your duty to support my decision.”

“Shouldn’t partners make that decision together?”

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting when he flipped on the light at the bottom of the stairs. A dungeon maybe. Filled with cells with iron bars, maybe a prisoner or two shackled to the wall, but it was just a normal wine cellar. The contrast from what my imagination had expected and what I saw was so jolting that I froze.

“Walk.” Teo’s voice was harsh as he pushed me along the corridor. We reached a large wine rack and Teo plucked a bottle of wine from the shelf before fiddling with the back paneling. Suddenly, the wall opened up into a doorway that led down a darker, dank part of the cellar that fit with what I had originally expected. I hesitated and Teo nudged me on. “Maybe the next time I need to keep you in one place, I should put you down here. There’s no balcony to escape from down here, my little Rapunzel.”

A chill of fear ran up my spine but before I could respond, Teo grabbed my arm to stop me from walking farther. “Here.”

A man stood guard just inside the dim alcove that led to a heavy door with a deadbolt and a small window with prison bars. As Teo and the man exchanged pleasantries, I glanced inside to
