Chapter 7

“Sebastien.”

“Sorry to bother you, boss, but we’re pretty sure that she’s going to move against you.”

“I had the same thought. She was just here with her mother.”

Sebastien let out a dry laugh. “Her mother, yes I’m sure. Try pack enforcer.”

“Exactly. Two evil witches in this town and neither of them want this contract to go through. And I am sure taking my land at the island would be a nice bonus. Luckily, the contract is a done deal at this point.”

“Do you think it is all because of that thing from way back?”

Nathaniel rolled his eyes though he knew Seb couldn’t see him. “You make me sound old.”

Sebastien laughed. “How do you want to want to roll with this?”

“As we speak, I’m out on a date with a human.” Nathaniel paused to let his words sink in. He waited.

“Sorry?” Sebastien finally said, “Can you repeat? I think I heard you wrong. There’s no way you said you’re on a date.”

It was Nathaniel’s turn to chuckle. “You heard me loud and clear. I’m on a date. She’s pretty groovy and because she’s with me, I am going to have to protect her too. Apparently she knows Ivy somehow from Florida. Makes me wonder what Ivy has been up to there.”

“Wow this keeps getting better and better.”

“Not exactly how I would put it. I’m going to try to keep her with me so we can avoid any trouble. I can’t explain it, but I would literally kill every werewolf and any other shifter in their pack if they harmed a single hair on her head.”

Silence.

“I need to go, Sebastien.”

“Ok, boss,” Sebastien said quickly. “We’ll make sure you both have protection. I’ve already reached out and given the local guild a heads up that something might go down tonight but I’ll reach out again and ask them to be close. Anything against a cash payment for the help?”

“Definitely not. I don’t want to owe them a debt. See what you can get them to agree to. Feel free to check in with other sectors as well.”

“Will do. If I don’t talk to you again, pay attention sir. Keep your phone close for 911 if and when you need the back up to move in. Or just holler.” Sebastien chuckled.

Nathaniel hung up the phone, took a sip of his whiskey and stared at the chair where his beautiful woman had been sitting. His. He liked the idea. He wondered how he could convince her to come to his room for a very long nightcap without using his powers of persuasion. Vampire or no, he really didn’t want it to come down to that.

And how about her outfit? They could not have planned their attire better. The fangs suited her, he wondered if she would be interested in having them permanently. Nathaniel shook his head. He certainly was getting ahead of himself.
