How’s Kit doing? The boy living up to his potential yet? Still waiting for a report.

I blink in the shadows of my bedroom early Sunday morning when I see the text from Alastair.

I don’t know how to answer. Kit has been surprising me, at every turn. I’m also a little bit remorseful over the fact that I spent all night having erotic dreams about my new boss.

He’s surpassing expectations. Determined to bring only good things to Cupid’s Arrow.

Impressed? I told you there was more to him than his reputation...

We’ll see.

I exhale nervously and put my phone back on my nightstand. I’m dreading every time I hear from Alastair, trying to avoid reporting on anything, and that makes me feel bad. I don’t want to even think about why I’m avoiding this responsibility. He expects a full report. But I don’t want to be ratting on Kit. Even if he makes a mistake... I would like to think, after tonight, that I can help him through any rough patches. I’m only in charge of one department of the company, but getting to know more of Kit, I’m beginning to admire him. His input on the app design was honest, and more than that, it was good. To the point. He wants his company to succeed as much as I do, or more. He has a thirst for proving himself to his father and I, suddenly, really hope that he does. So does that make me biased, unable to fulfill my mission for Alastair? And is last night’s kiss clouding my judgment?

I sigh as I press my cheek back into my pillow and inhale the lingering scent of him in my nostrils, shutting my eyes and blaming Kit Walker for the fact that I can’t go back to sleep.

I’ve picked up my car from Kit’s place—finally. And on Monday, for the first time possibly ever, I’m torn about going in to the office. On one hand, I’m sort of dying to see Kit, even though I’m frustrated at myself for feeling like this. On the other, I’m not looking forward to dealing with the whole Ben thing.

Cupid’s Arrow used to be a place where I felt safe, accepted, even admired, perhaps. But today, I’m heading there with the knowledge that it’ll be awkward when I see Ben. Plus, there’s the nerve-wracking knowledge that I’m a little bit too attracted to my boss and I don’t know what’s happening between us.

When I step through the doors of the main office, Tim and Angela start clapping. I groan, remembering the fiasco at Kit’s place. Tim even throws in a cheesy wave for good measure.

I try not to roll my eyes at them.

If they’re going to celebrate the fact that I made a fool of myself at Kit’s party, then I can’t really say I didn’t have it coming. Still, I can’t help but blush at their antics.

“Way to go, Alex! The girl can let loose!” Tim cries.

“Okay, enough,” I stop them, chuckling before I force myself to get serious.
