Seeing Steve had boosted Morgan’s mood. She decided to feel Rob out about staying in Canada to see what he thought.
“As long as we’re in the same country, I am happy with wherever you think we should be,” he said.
“It feels good being here,” Morgan said. “I think I’m familiar enough with it, and we can blend in well enough to stay off anyone’s radar as long as we don’t get cocky. Are you interested in visiting the west coast and checking it out?”
“Back to the ocean for you?” he said smiling.
“Sort of…Vancouver is a huge city and we could hide ourselves in one of the busy corners of it easily enough.”
“Steve’s acreage didn’t tempt you to live out in the country?” he said.
“No, though it sounds tempting, we’d be part of a small community, and we’d stick out like a pair of sore thumbs with our high-tech security and always looking over our shoulders. Besides, you know how much I like to eat out.”
“You know I can cook, right?” his smile made her heart thump faster.
“That’s good, because you might have to teach me. We’ve got enough money to live off if we are careful and don’t spend a stupid amount. That should take some pressure off, too, until we decide what to do.”
“I can work as a cop or in security easily enough,” he offered.
“So can I, but I think we may be better off coming up with something a little different to hide us better,” she said, with her finger tapping her bottom lip.
“Like what? I like working with a gun in my holster, and could carry one with me all over the US. I’m not so sure about here.” He looked thoughtful.
“You can’t carry a gun here, it’s just not done,” she said. “There’s border security though, or working as a customs agent, but those are probably places they will look for us. Hey…what do you think about going all trendy and starting a food truck?” she turned to him, and cocked her head to one side. “You like to cook, and nobody would look for me to be working in a food truck.”
He looked at her seriously. “I never said I liked to cook, I only said that I can cook. I’m not sure I want to try making a living at it.”
“Hmm, good point,” she conceded. “What about we pretend to sell stuff on the internet, you know, like the gurus do with their supplements and protein shakes.”
“You’re sounding a little desperate,” he laughed.
“I am, aren’t I?” she said putting her hands on her hips. “Dammit, I need a drink to figure this out. I have pretended to be a human resources professional when I was undercover, and I could do more of that, but those people work long ridiculous hours for what they get.”
“We don’t have any scotch, do we?” Rob said, mentioning her drink of choice.
“No, we don’t. And while we’re talking about it, maybe I need to change up my alcohol as part of my cover.
