CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
Once more, the villagers sat outside their huts, with Elisa and Rahul sitting on the charpoy next to Banjeetâs. Manoj, the boy who had given away his family membersâ skulls, sat nearby, holding the bag of the skulls near his chest as if he was hugging it, lost in memories of his family.
Everyone was drowning in their own distress. There was complete silence, a heart-pounding emptiness, as their brains worked to find a way to escape the village. Though it was not even just the village they would have to escape, but the entire city. They were scared. They could only run so far.
Dali had removed the shield. To verify this, Rahul threw a rock past the boundary in a random direction, and it simply landed on the floor instead of turning to dust. Some villagers left the village at once, while others remained, waiting for Rahul to come up with a plan that would defeat the wicked ones.
Deep down, they knew that death would come to them, sooner or later, no matter where they went, because Dali and her evil force were too great. She was going to attack Rajasthan tomorrow and then other cities after that. Instead of fleeing, they needed a place to hide, somewhere where Dali couldnât find them. Because even if they made it out of Rajasthan altogether, other cities and then other countries would also fall victim to their plight.
Rahul was afraid. It was a frightening moment where his brain had stopped giving him helpful ideas. Elisa and the villagers sat motionless in front of him, waiting. Rahulâs eyes noticed the time on his wristwatch. âShit, shit, shit!â
Everyone started, some jittery, some panicked, and still others just stared blankly.
âIs there anything wrong? Did you see them?â asked Banjeet.
âNo. Itâs the time. Only three hours to twelve,â said Rahul. âThree hours until the change of day, and with that, she will attack.â
Those in the crowd who also hadnât noticed the time gaped at him. Many didnât realize the new day started at midnight and not with the sunrise, and fresh panic began to spread.
No one could think of anything that could be done except sit there, imagining their inevitable deaths.
In agitation, Rahul tried to force his brain to find a way to hide the villagers or help them escape. Three hours. Three immortals. Thousands of demons. All after hundreds of humans with no immortality, and no supernatural powers.
Who would survive? Would the evil win over the good? When it came to good vs. evil, good must always win, no matter how powerful the evildoer was. Good must triumph over evil, as everyone had heard since their childhood.

âYou should have killed them, my lady,â said Dansh as he stood before her throne. âWhy did you let them go?â
Blood was boiling inside Dansh. He couldnât tolerate how Dali had let the abducted villagers escape, but mostly he couldnât stand the idea of Rahul and Elisa, who once dared to battle him, once more getting away.
